Nuclear
About Nuclear Power
Nuclear power plants get their energy from uranium, thorium,
or other fissile material and use it to generate heat.
Pros: Carbon-free electricity, reliable baseload electricity source, small land footprint, capacity factor. Like solar, a nuclear power plant does not generate emissions while generating electricity.
Cons: Recycling the spent (partially used) nuclear fuel is possible but not yet implemented.
Costs:
Capacity factor: 92.5%
Other: Nuclear power generation is the only energy generation system that accounts for all waste produced.
Nuclear Q&A
This is a Q&A document prepared by The Finnish Greens for Science and Technology. In the document, we try to answer some common questions about nuclear energy based on the latest scientific information.
The Real Reason They Hate Nuclear Is Because It Means We Don't Need Renewables
by Michael Shellenberger
Why is it that, from the U.S. and Canada to Spain and France, it is progressives and socialists who say they care deeply about the climate, not conservative climate skeptics, who are seeking to shut down nuclear plants?
After all, the two greatest successes when it comes to nuclear energy are Sweden and France, two nations held up by democratic socialists for decades as models of the kind of societies they want.
